As this is my final year of University, I have been asked many times ‘What’s next?!’ and I often have this same response ‘I have no idea’. The pressure in society to have set plans and goals for our future has been increasing every decade. Remembering back in elementary school where we had career days, or even in high school with career match making websites, we are being pushed to find our future career or employment field to continue the economic stimulus within our country.

I personally have changed my career path many times throughout my lifetime. I wanted originally when I was around the age of 6, to be a cartoon (I wanted to entertain). This quickly was found to be awfully impossible, so I went for the next best thing: a cartoonist. I had the books, the pad and special pencils, all in preparation for the skills for me to become the creator of the zanny characters we see in the newspapers and television programs. I then found out that my skills weren’t up to snuff for the precision for repeating my characters over and over again. Don’t get me wrong, I love to still doodle, but there were still things I was good at as well.

I then moved on to being a radio host. I had my foot in the door 3 years ago when I tried it out through the campus radio station at Brock University. Unfortunately I never really took the time to create a name for myself as I had to focus more on my studies.

In High School, I started to think about realistic jobs like a doctor or a lawyer. I realized quickly through my short gag reflex in biology class and sleeping through civics class that those two careers weren’t up my alley. I then decided that I loved working with young people, as I spent my summers working at summer camps. This brought me to the university program ‘Outdoor Recreation and Leisure Studies’ at Brock University. Now you are probably asking ‘what do you do with that? just play with kids?’ And my response with that is YES!! I learned through my education that doing practical lessons in the outdoor settings are very effecting in the learning process for young minds. I, too, have learned so much about myself in the outdoors and through the environment around me. This knowledge and appreciation has inspired me to write music in my spare time with my guitar. I love teaching others about the amazingness of the outdoor spaces and how it influences our lives through various experiences.

SO… what is my next step in life after university? Only God knows at this point. I know that I will continue my music, teach the younger generation about outdoor experiences, and to share my faith.

What are your next steps?

Listen...

Listen...

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE INANIMATE OBJECT?

My guitar. It is my most prized possession. Nothing fancy, but something I cherish.

Wonders Around

Have you ever thought about the wonders around,

The things that bring joy, peace, patience, without any sound.

Have you taken the time to paint a picture of your life,

all the colourful moments of laughter, or the somber shades of strife.

If we really spare a second or two,

And remember all events that we’ve gone through,

We’ll inspire to others to live life to the fullest and always be true.
